Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), set up in 1971, is the second largest R&D establishment of Department of Atomic Energy. The primary mission of the centre is to conduct a broad based multidisciplinary programme of Scientific Research and Advanced Engineering, directed towards the development of technology of Sodium Cooled Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR) in the country. The programmes at IGCAR are at the cutting edge of frontier areas of science and technology. Successful development of technology and demonstration of safe operation of Fast Breeder Test Reactor culminated in the beginning of the construction of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam by BHAVINI. This is a part of the second stage of Indian Atomic Energy Programme, which is aimed at preparing the country for utilization of the extensive Thorium reserves and providing means to meet the large demands of electrical energy in 21st century. Kalpakkam is located 80 kms South of Chennai [MADRAS] and is 8 kms South of historic Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram). who relishes challenges and would like to take part in design, construction & operation of Fast Breeder Reactors and associated fuel cycle facilities, or participate in engineering developments in Fast Breeder Technology? Commencing from September 2006.
Training Scheme and Employment Description
1. One-Year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates at Kalpakkam for the year 2006-2007 (OCES-2006) to be conducted at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Training School, Kalpakkam. Table-1 lists Eligible Disciplines. Admissible Qualifying Degrees are summarized in Table-2. A Trainee who scores a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the examinations conducted during training is declared to have passed the course successfully. Successful Trainees will be posted as scientific officers at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) or at other DAE centres including a) Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hyderabad, c) Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (BHAVINI), Kalpakkam, and d) Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL), Mumbai.
Successful completion of OCES-2006 course work at the Training School will entitle trainees to Post-Graduate Diploma of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a Deemed to be University. Selected candidates are required to execute an agreement and a personal Indemnity Bond for Rs.1,37,000/- to serve DAE for at least three years after completion of training. No third party surety is required.
During Training: (i) Stipend and Allowances: OCES trainees are paid stipend of Rs.11,000/- per month during the period of their training and a one-time book allowance of Rs.5,000/-, (ii) Boarding and Lodging is mandatory at the hostel provided by DAE. Boarding and lodging charges, shall be borne by the trainee.
On Appointment: Appointment shall be as a Group A Gazetted Officer of the Government of India. Grade and Pay Scale: Appointment shall be as a Scientific Officer © in the pay scale Rs.8000-275-13500. Appointment will be at the beginning of the pay scale with OCES trainees getting three or four increments depending on their performance during the OCES programme. Emoluments (with four increments) at the time of joining including Dearness Allowance at the present rate will be approximately Rs.16,900/-. In addition, other Allowances are also payable such as House Rent Allowance (~ Rs. 4000/- in a class A city), City Compensatory Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, and Professional Update Allowance. A comprehensive Contributory Health Service Scheme for employees and their dependent family members is also in place.
Selection to OCES is a two-step process: screening to short-list candidates followed by interview of the short-listed candidates.
Screening will be done on the basis of valid GATE score.
Selection Interviews of short-listed candidates will be conducted in IGCAR, Kalpakkam-603102. Outstation applicants will be paid to and fro second-class sleeper train fare by shortest route or actual fare whichever is less. Probable dates of selection interview are August 7, 2006 to August 12, 2006. List of short-listed candidates and Interview schedule will be declared on our website on July 20, 2006. Interview call letters will also be posted to those short-listed for interview. Final Selection is done on the basis of performance in interview subject to medical fitness.
(A) Qualifying Degrees and Other Academic Requirements for OCES
Qualifying degrees for admission are BE/BTech/BSc (Engineering). Those who have scored minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying degree in any one of the engineering disciplines mentioned in Table-1 are eligible. In addition, the applicant should have GATE-2005/GATE-2006 score more than or equal to the following in the same engineering discipline as the qualifying degree discipline:
Mechanical 350 Chemical 350
Electronics 400 Instrumentation 350
Those having qualifying degree in branches like Aerospace, Automobile, Industrial Production, Reliability, Ceramics, Architecture, Geology, Mining, Bio-Medical Electronics/ Instruments, Communication, Information Technology, MCA, Dyes & Dye Intermediates, Electrochemical, Energy Systems, Oils & Fats, Paints & Varnishes, Petrochemicals, Plastics, Paper, Sugar Technology, Textiles etc., are not eligible.
Those who have appeared or intend to appear for the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School interview conducted at BARC, Mumbai in June/July 2006 are not eligible to apply.
Those who have been called to appear for BARC Training School interview at Mumbai, but intend now to be considered for selection for IGCAR Training School should apply afresh for IGCAR Training School and should not appear for the BARC Training School interview at Mumbai. Ch etanaS
(B)Age Limit: Date of birth of the applicant should be on or after September 1, 1980. Age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC and by five years for SC/ST applicants.
© Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen.
Those, whose final results for qualifying degree are awaited but are otherwise eligible, can also apply. If selected for OCES, the mark-sheet of final result should be submitted by November 30, 2006. Chet anaS
How to apply ??
There are two modes of application: (1) Online, and (2) By Post.
Application Fee: A non-refundable application-processing fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. one hundred) for an online application and Rs. 200/- (Rs. two hundred) for a postal application is chargeable from the applicants in General and OBC categories. SC/ST applicants and Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA) are exempted from payment of application fee. The application fee is to be paid by crossed Demand Draft (DD) (non-refundable) drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, IGCAR, and payable at Kalpakkam. The applicant should write his/her name and address at the back of the DD and retain the bank receipt and photocopy of the DD. Do not staple DD.
(1) Online Application: Get the DD for the Application Fee. Log on to the website www.igcar.gov.in, and follow the instructions there for filling and submitting the Net-form.
(2) Application by Post can be made by taking two photocopies on an A4 size (~8.3"x11.7") paper of the accompanying format as Application Form. No separate application form will be issued. Fill in all the relevant information, paste photographs on both the copies and mail both copies along with one set of enclosures and DD towards the application fee on the address given in the application form. One copy shall be returned to the applicant indicating the application number. That copy should be brought along at the time of appearing for Interview.
